 Puducherry's Most Stunning Beaches

Puducherry, also known as Pondicherry, is a popular tourist destination in South India and has some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. Here are some of the best beaches to visit in Puducherry.

1. Paradise Beach

Paradise Beach is located on the Chunnambar River, about 8 km from Puducherry. The beach is accessible only by boat and is known for its crystal-clear waters and golden sand. It is a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing.

Paradise Beach can be safely added to the 'must visit' list of visitors to Pondicherry. The beach is on the northern side of the town and the way to reach the it makes it even more interesting. The beach is next to the Chunnambar Estuary, and the access is via a 15-20 minute boat ride. Children would find the visit exciting with a good boat ride as well as an opportunity to play with the sea waves.

The striking feature of the beach is the cleanliness of the area. I found that there is an army of maintenance staff who diligently picks up garbage, coconut shells etc and keeps the beach clean. The sand too seems to have a very distinct shade of white. This and the clear blue sea makes the area look scenic with good scope for photography experiments.

There are stalls selling tender coconuts and two restaurants serving snacks and drinks. There are sand buggies available on hire, and a 'rain dance' area for visitors who want to get drenched in that way. There are toilets and very basic facilities for visitors to bath & change their clothes, but there are no cloak rooms/lockers to keep personal belongings safe. When travelling as a small group one person may have to act as a sentry/guard.

The beach has safe areas marked and there are also life guards available. The life guards are not having any distinctive uniform which seems to be an area for improvement. The only way to identify them is to listen to their whistles or check if they are carrying a whistle.

2. Serenity Beach

The name speaks for itself the beach is very calm and beautiful and very enjoyable. There are many home stay properties surrounding this area. Its a bit crowded during the weekends but still gives you a pleasant experience

3. Auroville Beach

Auroville Beach is located about 12 km from Puducherry and is a popular spot for surfing. The beach is less crowded than other beaches in the area, and is known for its clean and clear water.
This beach is on the way to go to the Auroville. Honestly, it's just another beach in Pondicherry and very rocky! So you can not enjoy the sand as such.
Auro and Auroville Beach are interconnected. Auro Beach is fantastic and peaceful. We saw some hotel and restaurant on sea side. Water is clean and wave is big and good. This Beach is good for sea bath. Shore is little down, take care while bathing. Live Fish fry, coconut available on Beach. Though less crowded beach nevertheless Govt. should more attention about cleanliness.

4. Promenade Beach
